Follow the money.

Growing up I heard the old adage...follow the money to understand what is really going on in politics, culture and corruption.

Why would Hamas intentionally jab Israel and the IDF with the sharpest of sticks by kidnapping and killing the three Yeshiva boys and then start launching an even greater number of rockets fired indiscriminately into Israeli communities?    Hamas had to know the IDF would respond but to most rational people, that makes no sense.  Why ask for the beating?   It is a means to an end.

Hamas had learned from watching events here in the west and decided to use the race hustlers' playbook.    It goes like this.   Find a cause, rush in with all the outrage you can muster, demand money, get paid and move on.    The likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton has done this for years.   Find a group or organization,  become outraged and accuse them of being racist (for which any denial is called proof because only a racist would deny it), demand payment from them or risk continuing to be called racist, get paid and move on without solving any real problems.   That is the con.    The groups they claim to help or defend are really of little consequence.

Hamas leadership views the actual residents of Gaza as being of little consequence.   They can be sacrificed as they are a means to a monetary end.   They knew Israel would pummel the region in order to defend itself.   They left Israel no other option.   Thats the con.   Hamas continues to spew it racist hatred for Jews and Israelis.   They indoctrinate children from the youngest of ages to hate Jews, just for being Jews.    They foment the hatred to a fevered pitch.   Hamas forces the residents of Gaza to shield their activities or risk being killed by Hamas itself.    Hamas demands an end the blockade of some goods entering Gaza that prevents Hamas from bringing in weapons of war in greater quantities.  Hamas has demanded the UN and other countries pay money to build and rebuild Gaza over and over.   Anyone who balks at that demand....well you are told you are a racist and you hate muslims.    It gets even better for Hamas.  Little of  the money they extort, from the UN, reaches the people it is intended for in Gaza.  Hamas leadership controls the flow of goods in and out of Gaza and taxes every import.   The cowardly Hamas leadership and their families live large as rock stars in other countries like Qutar, without getting their actual hands dirty.   Apparently only young foot soldiers make the best martyrs.  Hamas leadership have become millionaires and billionaires in a very short period of time off the money contributed by the world at large and taxing all imported goods into Gaza.  Hamas doesn't protect the citizens or do anything to make their lives better with the money.  The poorer they make the people look, they more money the world will contribute and the more they make.  There is the money trail.

By goading Israel into firing at all parts of Gaza, Hamas has guaranteed the flow of  money.   Hamas doesn't want the blockade to end any more than the rabbit didn't want to be thrown into the briar patch.    The destruction of Gaza, started by Hamas' decisions, will serve as a constant daily source of  hatred for Israeli's by the people of Gaza and sympathy of the UN and the UNHRC which is so eager to blame Israel for everything.     Through violence against its own people and against Israel, Hamas will retain its position as the faux savior of the Palestinian people.  For its own safety and protection,  Israel has no choice but to continue the blockade that will ensure the steady stream of taxes with which Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal  and his family, enrich themselves.    Until the world condemns Hamas, ends their funding, and destroys it completely, the Hamas  con will go on and on and on.   All the while the actual people of Gaza, whom Hamas claims to be fighting for,  continue to be treated as of little consequence.

In the blink of an eye

We have all probably had the experience where our world turns upside down in the blink of an eye.    News of a loved one in peril or worse or the seconds after an accident where you wish you could go back in time and adjust time and space for mere seconds to change the outcome of events.    A year ago I received news that my son had been in a serious car accident.   I had about 15 seconds to hang up the phone as I was on an airplane and the doors had been shut and the attendant was giving me the "eye"   For the next 45 minutes until we landed again  I mulled over all the scenarios of what might have followed the accident.   Thankfully he was not seriously injured and a miracle occurred.

As I read the headlines about the abduction of the Israeli soldier today, in violation of the agreed-up ceasefire, my heart goes out to the parents of that young man Hadar Goldin.    In the blink of an eye his life has changed, as has the lives of his family and fiancé.    While I felt the anguish of the unknown for 45 minutes, these people will feel it much longer.   My heart goes out to them.   Please keep them in your prayers and supplication for his safe return and for a miracle on their behalf.

Am Yisrael Chai!

Last Sunday I attended a Yom HaZikaron ceremony at a local Jewish Community Center.   Yom HaZikaron is the day Israeli's pay honor, tribute and remembesr those that have fallen in establishing and defending the State of Israel.  It is always a solemn and heart felt ceremony.   This year's event was juxtaposed with a tragic event at that same Jewish Community Center a month before when an evil man shot and killed three individuals.   He had targeted them solely because he thought they were Jewish.  He was mistaken.   All three were Christians who just happened to be attending an audition at the center.   It was a sad reminder that anti-Semitism and evil are still too common place in 2014.

Yom HaZikaron is followed the next day by Yom Ha'atzmaut or Independence Day in Israel.   From deep sorrow and soberness to celebration and pride.   It is an interesting contrast that says tribute must be paid to those brave men and women who died defending and establishing Israel in order to truly celebrate the freedoms and protections for Jews enjoyed today.

The following video celebrates that Am Yisrael Chai or the nation of  Israel (still) Lives!

4000 year History of Jerusalem

Jerusalem, a mosaic of different peoples, faiths, and nationalities. Nevertheless, despite this diversity, under the sovereignty of Israel, Jerusalem is a city that works. But has it always been this way?

This short 5-minute narrative of the history of Jerusalem does a great job of putting into context the any conquests for the Holy City and the ultimate return of the Jewish people.   Video produced by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.

Short video that speaks to the things we say taken from a TED Talk given in 2008.

View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/lessons-from-auschwitz-the-power-of-our-words-benjamin-zander Classical music mastermind Benjamin Zander concluded his 2008 TED Talk by recounting the heartrending story of an Auschwitz survivor and her brother. This short animated piece highlights that story, reminding us that the words we speak to one another are incredibly powerful tools that we shouldn't take for granted.

Israel Sea of Inspiration

Saw this short video clip that was part of Israel's presentation at the Korean Expo in 2012.   The aerial footage is spectacular and really shows some of the most beautiful and diverse parts of Israel.  Too good not to share.
